BOOM! Breaking news out of Columbus as 2019 three star defensive tackle, Jaden McKenzie, has committed to the Buckeyes. With the commitment of McKenzie, the Buckeyes are now up to 16 commits in their 2019 class.
McKeznie, a 6’3 280 pound defensive tackle out of Wake Forest, North Carolina, has been a newer name for a lot of Buckeye fans, but one that staff has been looking into for a while now. The Buckeyes offered McKenzie back in late June and he had always been a favorite for coach Larry Johnson. McKenzie visited Columbus for the Michigan game, and the staff had made great progress since the visit. Getting McKenzie on board was not an easy decision, as the Buckeyes had to beat out his home state Tarheels for his services.
With the Buckeyes wanting to get a defensive tackle in the class after a large 2018 class of them, McKenzie rose to the top of the best available for the Buckeyes. After meeting with head coach Ryan Day and the aforementioned Johnson on December 11th, McKenzie decided he wanted to become a Buckeye as he announced and signed today during the early signing period.Getting McKenzie in the class was important because it gives the roster even more depth at the defensive tackle position. While McKeznie will not be asked right now to contribute, he is a high upside player that Johnson and the staff love.
Here are the official highlights for McKenzie.
Welcome to Buckeye Nation, Jaden, we are glad to have you!
