BOOM! Breaking news out of Columbus as 2019 three star offensive linemen, Dawand Jones, has committed to the Buckeyes. With the commitment of Jones, the Buckeyes are now up to 17 commits in their 2019 class.
Jones, a 6’8 360 pound offensive tackle out of Indianapolis, is a recruit that the Buckeyes turned a lot of attention to after the early signing period. With a need for more offensive linemen, Jones’ name quickly went to the top of the list.
After making Jones a priority, the Buckeyes seemed to be the team to beat but it was not without a fight. Florida, Penn State, USC, and Indiana were the other four teams in his top five that the Buckeyes had to fight off for his services.
One of the first things that pops out when watching Jones as both a football and basketball player is just how athletic he is for that size and weight. He has great mobility which is one of the things the Buckeyes fell in love with while watching him. He will not be asked to play right away, and is sort of a project for the Buckeyes and the weight room staff, but the potential is certainly there. At this point of time, there has just been such a dire need for offensive linemen that the Buckeyes needed to get a player with the upside of Jones in this class.
Welcome to Buckeye Nation, Dawand, we are glad to have you!
