Chris Holtmann and the Buckeye basketball team have added yet another great recruit to their already impressive 2019 class. E.J. Liddell committed to Ohio State over Missouri and his home state school of Illinois. Liddell is a 4 star power forward from Belleville West High school. E.J. also played on the coveted Bradley Beal Elite AAU team. The 6’7’ versatile big adds some more depth to the 2019 class and brings some interesting talents to the squad.
Liddell is an explosive athlete with solid length and a great feel for the game. He seems comfortable on the floor at all times. He is terrific on the block and in transition. He seems to be capable with the ball in his hands as well. He could possibly be reminiscent of Jae’Sean Tate this past season when he would take the ball up to initiate the offense. The extremely impressive thing about E.J. is how he uses his size and impeccable timing. He seemingly snatches the ball out of the air or pins it on the glass any time a shot goes up near him. It’s similar to how Sam Thompson used to lurk in the paint waiting for an opportunity to reject the opposition. Liddell even has some solid shooting touch to go along with his astonishing ability to use his body and strength to finish around the rim and rebound.
E.J. is a perfect fit for Chris Holtmann’s style of basketball. Chris loves to use two bigs working on the blocks to space the floor, open lanes, and create offense. Liddell is a good passer with the vision and skill to find teammates from anywhere. He is also clearly a terrific finisher around the basket. His size will allow him to defend down low and switch out to the perimeter with his length and basketball IQ. He will be able to operate comfortably as a big in coach Holtmann’s tough and gritty system.
The Buckeyes have managed to find another great and remarkable player to add to the astounding 2019 class. Liddell will be a wonderful fit for Ohio State’s rising basketball program.
