Ohio State Vs. Purdue Game Preview

Ohio State will take on the Boilermakers tonight in Columbus as they look to turn the season around after dropping four straight conference games. The Bucks will be without Kyle Young tonight and for several weeks after it was revealed that he has a stress fracture in his leg. Chris Holtmann has stated that the likes of Jaedon LeDee, Musa Jallow, and Justin Ahrens will be called upon to fill in and play important minutes in Young’s absence. Young brought a certain hustle and presence in the paint that the Buckeyes will miss.

Purdue currently stands at 12-6 while the Bucks stand at 12-5 on the season. This is essentially a must-win for Ohio State as they find themselves in a downward spiral and on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament. Carsen Edwards leads Purdue as he is averaging nearly 25 points per game and has given every team troubles with his shot-creating ability.

  • KEYS FOR OHIO STATE                                                                                      Kaleb Wesson: Get going on offense and stay out of foul trouble              Next Man Up: Bench must step up without Young in lineup                      Turn Defense Into Offense: Use defense to cause points off turnovers     Contain Edwards: Don’t let him get hot and beat you himself
Contain Kaleb Wesson: Make other Buckeyes score.
Role players: Must step up as the Bucks attempt to take away Edwards
Protect Ball: Don’t give away extra possessions for easy buckets

Ohio State must come out on top this game if they are going to get this season back on track and compete for a serious NCAA Tournament spot. Purdue would also benefit greatly from a win here on the road as they will need to put some more wins together to seal a spot in the tournament.

Ohio State will also have a moment of silence for Tyler Trent, the Purdue fan who recently passed away. Trent was an inspiration and helped tremendously in raising awareness for bone cancer. This will be an important moment showing that some things are much bigger than basketball.
